On our walk through our neighborhood today, Ed and I were struck by the brilliance of the blooms all around us. Spring has sprung in Oregon!

But the next moment was sobering. What are all the little kids doing? And how are their poor parents coping with all of this?

Ah, here’s what one kid made for us all to take in and take to heart. “Feel Happy” the sign says. Puts a smile on our faces.

Then there’s this very Oregonian display of showing kindness.

Finally, we get to the home of our grandsons…and I get to wave at them from the middle of the street. Heart-breaking when our nine-year-old Elian – sitting on the curb with his dog – asks, “Why can’t you come close to us, Nani? You’re Mama’s mother, so you’re part of our family, aren’t you?”
