Thanksgiving 2019 – before COVID

Even though Americans generally believe that Thanksgiving stems from the highly contested and sparsely documented 1621 harvest feast shared by the pilgrims of Plymouth and the Wampanoag people, it actually began long before that as a day of giving thanks and sacrifice for the blessings of the harvest and of the preceding year.

So, whatever you believe about the origins of this holiday, my wish for all of us is that we unite around values we all hold, despite the many differences that have torn us apart this year: Values of generosity, compassion and most of all, gratitude.

And this 2020 Thanksgiving, may we also unite around special care for one another, for our own and for everyone else’s health and well-being.

Be safe and be well. I am grateful that you are with me on this journey!
