What do Victor Hugo (French poet, novelist, and dramatist of the Romantic movement, born in 1802), Aldous Huxley (English writer and philosopher, born in 1894) and Johnny Depp (American actor, singer, producer, and musician, born in 1963) have in common?
Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.
-Victor Hugo
After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.
-Aldous Huxley
Music touches us emotionally, where words alone can’t.
-Johnny Depp
For me it is so important to be touched whether it is by silence, music, or human love.
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up with Russian Cossack music playing, classic music, Beethoven and all the rest. Rock as I went through my teens, Blues and Jazz as I matured. I have music playing all the time wherever I am. For me it is a safe place.
“For me it is a safe place.” Doug Bradley would love that, Hank. It’s what he called being “home.”
What about Mennonite hymns????
Mennonite hymns are not that memorable for me. Possibly because I was rebelling against the strict guide lines that were being foisted on me and I was blocking them out.
I understand. About the rebellious part, I mean! But those hymns made their way under my skin nevertheless.
