When I launched my new podcast in January, I wrote that although I’ve been given a voice, too often I’ve failed to raise it to speak up for what I deeply believe:
· I believe we all have the capacity to learn and grow.
· I believe authenticity is an essential foundation for growth.
· I believe we are meant to be connected – to help one another along the way.
We just finished the first podcast series of ten shows, each one exploring different ways my guests have courageously embraced life after going through painful and traumatic experiences and revealing how the pain of those experiences sometimes makes us more fully aware of who we truly are.
I intend to continue raising my voice.
And I’m excited to introduce the upcoming podcast season titled Forgiveness and Reconciliation. You’ll hear from experts on the topic who share their insights about what forgiveness means and how it relates to reconciliation at two very different levels: At the level of family wounds like parental estrangement, and at the level of collective trauma due to social and political offenses, such as slavery, terrorism and war. The bi-monthly podcast will launch on April 6th, featuring guests who are likely to both provoke and inspire you, people who’ve struggled to find healing in the face of rape, racial injustice, war and family estrangement.
This exploration is also inspired by my own journey, growing up on a Mennonite leprosy station in Paraguay, S.A., stumbling forward as a young adult in the US, hitting rock bottom, and eventually discovering healing and forgiveness in the most broken parts of myself. I describe my journey in my new book Love is Complicated: A True Story of Brokenness and Healing, which is now available for pre-order on Amazon.
